I chose Medicare Supplement Insurance for my family

As seniors we’re supposed to be living our Golden Years.  But sometimes it feels as though we have tougher decisions to make today than we ever made when we were working and raising our families.  That is why it is so refreshing to know that when you are shopping for Medicare Supplement Insurance you can depend on the information throughgomedigap.com.  The site offers so much important and relevant information about what we can expect from the Medicare plan that we choose.  It explains why it is so important to make the right choice, taking into account our own individual needs, our anticipated needs and how we can best preserve our investments and possessions so that it will be available for our spouses, our children and our grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Too often, we all just live in the here and now and don’t think about how the decisions we make today will directly affect our loved ones tomorrow.  When it comes to choosing a Medicare Supplement Insurance plan, it is important that you consider all the possibilities before you make a decision.

No one lives forever, and often we face unexpected situations.  We, as Baby Boomers, might develop debilitating medical conditions or have an accident that leaves us unable to walk or function without assistance.  Some ailments last a long time, such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure or cancer, which can drain your financial resources for years, while others hit us suddenly and leave our families left to pick up the pieces, such as an emergency surgery.  It is important to know what your out-of-pocket financial contributions are expected to be with any Medicare plan you choose, as well as any Medigap coverage you might elect to have.  Medicare was not designed to meet all our health obligations when we get older.  Unfortunately, that is a rather common misconception.  People today are living longer than they ever have before.  Advances in medical technology and improvements in living conditions—increased access around the world to clean water and better hygiene practices on a global scale—make it even more important to consider the steps we take today to ensure a more comfortable tomorrow.  The more choices we make now to prepare for tomorrow, the more in control of our choices we will be in the future.  You have to ask yourself: Who do you want to be in control of your destiny—especially your health care destiny?  Do you want to end up in a public nursing home or a private care facility? Do you want your loved ones to care for you in your home?  Arm yourself today by checking out the many options available to you through gomedigap.com.  Visiting the site now will save you frustration, disappointment and possibly heartache later.

Bridge the "Gap"

Most people find the Medicare system complicated and difficult to understand. There is good reason for this as there are several plans within the Medicare system, each offering a different coverage for different situations.  Most people think the Medicare system will take care of all their medical needs without a cost, but that is not true.

One of the best ways to get the most of Medicare is to make sure any gaps in your plan will be supplemented so that the out of pocket expenses will be covered. The way to fill those gaps is to purchase a Medicare Supplement Insurance plan. This will help with deductibles, co-pays, and coinsurance payments.
The Medicare Supplement Insurance is called Medigap insurance. Since Medicare is a government program, it has mandated a level of standardization that makes it easier to decide which supplemental coverage is best for your particular situation. The difficult thing to know as a consumer is that not all Medicare Supplement Insurance is the same. Some companies will offer a supplement that is significantly higher priced then other companies.
Often, figuring out who to turn to get the information on Medigap insurance is so overwhelming people tend to just throw their hands in the air and ignore the situation. That is not the best course of action. There is a great deal of information available both online and through printed materials. These printed materials will guide you through your options and choices.
One of the biggest issues with Medicare is related to the cost of prescription medications. With drug costs so high these days, the solution for saving money is to take a good hard look at the Part D Plan of your Medicare insurance. There are online tools that will show a national average retail costs for medications. These online tools will allow you the option to compare up to three (3) plans at a time and enroll in the best plan for you.
When you start your investigation on which plan is best for you, be sure to have all your personal information available and a list of all your prescribed medications, the amount of deductibles you pay, your coinsurance if you have any, and the current premiums you pay. By having this information handy, you will be able to get a better idea of which Medicare Supplement Insurance plan will be best for you.

What is Medicare?

For many people, the time after retirement can be a time of financial struggle. Often one hears the term “fixed income,” referring to the very limited income the elderly have. And to add to the problems, people usually gain more health problems as they age. Since their income is limited, they often cannot afford private health insurance. And, if their company does not offer them health insurance after retirement, they may be forced to do without. This is where Medicare comes in. Medicare is a federally funded insurance program, created for people over 65 who are in need. Occasionally, younger people with certain disabilities are also eligible for the program.

Medicare covers quite a bit of health issues, but, unlike regular health insurance Medicare has many large gaps in what it will and will not cover. For example, the Federal Insurance will cover illnesses of which a patient will recover (acute illness), but it does not cover such things as home care or nursing home care for people with long term illnesses. Medicare also has a prescription drug plan, but it does not cover all of the cost of prescriptions. Medicare is broken down into four different types or plans.

Part A is a free of charge insurance plan which will pay for inpatient hospital services, Hospice care, and even a limited amount of home health care. But, the benefits of part A are limited to only those circumstances. Part B does include a small premium charge and will help to pay for doctor visits, outpatient care, physical therapy and occupational therapy. Part C actually allows other health insurance plans to offer a Medicare like program to people. It must include all of the coverage of parts A and B plus it may include further benefits like dental.  Because part C is set up differently, patients can only see certain doctors or hospitals. The health care providers must be in a patient’s network. Part D is a prescription drug plan, which works with independent providers to offer prescription benefits.

Since Medicare does not cover all costs, many senior citizens choose to purchase a supplementary insurance called Medicare Gap Insurance or MediGap. This insurance is regulated by the government and helps to defray the costs of healthcare not covered by the Medicare plan.

Medicare Supplement Insurance Facts

For senior adults, Medicare is a vital-government supported insurance plan that helps to cover the expenses procured from medical and prescription bills. However, Medicare does not cover everything, and in 2006, supplemental coverage plans were introduced. This extra coverage is called Medigap, since it covers the gap between the cost of healthcare and the amount that Medicare will pay. There are many different options for Supplemental Insurance Coverage plans available through private organizations, and the different plans can be quite confusing. But, with a little studying, the various plans can be easy to understand. In order to be eligible for Medigap coverage, one must be enrolled in Medicare part A or part B.

There are twelve different Supplemental Insurance plans based on a standardized system. Each of these standard plans is the same, no matter from what private company from which it is purchased. So, it is more important to understand the twelve types of coverage as opposed to understanding different companies that offer the coverage. This also means that, no matter how much you pay for a plan, you are getting the exact same coverage with the same standards and claim filing processes, so it is important to not let anyone talk you into paying a higher premium. The extra money will not add anything to your coverage.

The actual premium cost of a Supplemental Insurance Plan is decided in one of three ways. Attained Age: The premium is set based upon the person’s age and will increase as the person gets older. Issue Age: The premium is set by the person’s age at the time of coverage start. It will not rise with age, but will rise with inflation. Community Related: This premium is set based on the age demographic and premiums of other people in the area. Although the latter two of these choices will cost more in the beginning, they will end up being the most money saving in the end.

Whichever Medicare Supplemental Insurance plans you choose, make sure that you discuss thoroughly all the positives and negatives of the plan with your salesman before signing any paperwork. The plans can be confusing, and with a dozen to choose from, there can be a lot to go over. But, since this is your health you are talking about, make sure to understand the plans completely and choose the best one for your needs.

Medigap is an Important Supplement for Medicare

A common misconception is that Medicare was designed to cover all your health-care needs once you reach the age for eligibility. This is a dangerous assumption that often leaves individuals unprepared to enjoy their golden years. A federal health insurance program for people 65 years and older, and individuals with certain, qualifying disabilities, Medicare pays for many of your health-care needs, but it does not pay for everything. The program includes “gaps” in coverage, requiring you to cover such expenses as co-insurance, co-payments and deductibles. That is why it is so important to protect your assets, and those of your loved ones, by investigating Medicare supplement plans. There are so many Medicare Supplements from which to choose -- it is important to take the time and do the research.

First it is important to understand the differences between the two types of Medicare coverage—Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B—and what each covers during a calendar year. There are services and expenses that are not covered in each plan, thus making it important to carry Medicare Supplement Insurance. Part A covers most of the expense for inpatient hospital care, up to the first 60 days, as well as some of the costs for stays in skilled nursing facilities, and hospice and home health care. If you spend more than 61 days in the hospital, your out-of-pocket expense in co-pays is $267 per day, for days 61-90 and $512 per day, for every day after that. Part B pays for some services and supplies that are considered medically necessary, but are not covered by Part A. Medicare Part B also assists you in paying for doctors’ services and outpatient care, and some other services that Part A does not pay. While Part B deductibles are less expensive compared to Part A, once you meet that deductible in a calendar year, are you responsible for 20 percent of additional expenses related to Medicare Part B. If you have to have major surgery or medical treatments, this can become extremely costly. This is why having a Medigap policy is so important.

Having a Medicare supplement is a smart move when you consider the costs you and your loved ones will be expected to incur after you receive your Medicare benefits, whatever plan you are under. A Medicare supplement plan will help you significantly reduce what you pay overall for services, supplies and hospitalizations. When examining a Medicare supplement policy or Medicare supplement plans, you must consider your individual needs, and do your best to anticipate any future needs.

Don't Be Confused By Medicare Supplement Policies

Sometimes it can be a bit difficult to understand everything there is to know about the various forms of Medicare Supplement Plans. You receive a bunch of paperwork that you can't make sense of and it even serves to confuse you more. You likely have questions about which one will be the most cost effective, what is covered and not covered, what are the details in fine print and many other questions are likely flooding your mind. You may even wonder if you need Medicare Supplement Insurance to begin with.

A Medigap insurance policy is designed to cover the needs of what Medicare does not provide, to “fill in the gaps” so to speak. Go Medigap is a free online resource designed to answer all the questions and help you easily understand why you need to have a Medicare Supplement Plan. A Medicare Supplement will help you defray the costs of health care that are not covered by your original Medicare policy. For most people, a policy like this can protect against financial ruin because of the rising costs of medical procedures, prescription medications and medical supplies.

Because the costs of Medicare Supplement Insurance plans will vary, it's important that you do thorough research and compare prices before you commit to buying a Medicare Supplement Policy. An insurance company may show you rates on up to 12 or more Medicare Supplement Plans; each policy must have easy to comprehend information to allow for easy comparison.

Another issue arising from Medicare Supplement Plans is that you must purchase a policy for yourself and your spouse, separately. A policy purchased just for you will not provide coverage for your spouse. When you purchase a Medigap policy, you must also have Medicare Part A and B and also you have to pay the monthly fees for Part B. Additionally, you are also responsible for paying your Medigap premiums every month as well.

Go Medigap can show you the rates and preliminary quotes before you decide which Medicare Supplement Policy to purchase. Some of the companies Go Medigap works with are Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, New Era, AARP, Sterling Investors, Unicare and many others. You are sure to find the right Medicare Supplement that will work for your needs and fit into your budget parameters. You do not have to go into the unsure world of Medicare Supplement Plans unarmed, you can get the information you need that will allow you to protect your most important asset: you.
